THREADED CHAIR
How many threads does it take to repair a chair?
Andrew Krysciak, 2025
Wood, plastic, cords
86 x 49 x 56cm
It is no longer clear whether we are talking about rustic or modernity. The latter is literally sewn together second by second. The threads and straps create unity between these opposing worlds and open up a new imaginary space.
Each element of this piece tells a story. The wooden legs and backrest come from existing chairs, while the seat is recycled from a familiar plastic form.
These components are assembled using colored cords and ribbons, hand-sewn through the structure to unite the wood and plastic in a single gesture. Broken, abandoned, and discovered on the streets of Paris, this chair has been reinvented to inspire new ways of thinking about chair design.
